(0:00 – 2:25)
Hey, it’s Bill Von Fumetti with Booming Bookkeeping Business, and I’m here with another one of my successful students, and this is Judy. Judy, thanks for joining us today. Of course.
So, tell us a little bit about where you were prior to finding bookkeeping. I was working full-time as a senior staff accountant. I mean, I have a degree in accounting, and I’ve been contemplating whether to stay in the 8 to 5 or, you know, do something else.
So, in 2021, a lot of small businesses get affected with COVID and stuff. So, I got laid off twice, once in March and once in August. And in August 2021, I told myself, you know, I’m done.
Or, I mean, 2022, sorry, not 21. So, I was like, okay, I think this is the path that I need to go to. So, I saw, I was scrolling on, you know, Facebook.
I’ve seen your program multiple times. I said, no, I’ll be okay. I’m happy now.
And then to the point was like, no, I’m not happy anymore. So, I decided to sign up and, you know, told my friends about it. Followed what Bill had to say in the training.
And it works. You guys, it works. Like, I’ve never made so much money in my life.
What encouraged you to want to reach out to somebody to get help with this? What encouraged you to want to, like, join a mentorship program like mine? And sometimes you don’t know it all, you know. You need a mentor. You need someone to guide you how to start it.
And someone to guide you on, because there’s always, like, some stuff that you don’t know, you know. And you’re there. Your support is there.
Your team. And you’re always there. Like, everybody’s responsive, you know, knowledgeable.
And, you know, I wanted to grow as I wanted to grow. Because, again, you know, I don’t know, you know, all of it. You know what I’m saying? So, and I’m so thankful for your team.
Because when I need you guys, you always give me the answer. Did you have some fears about getting started? And, like, I’m worried I might not find clients. Like, talk about your, like, the fears that you had and how you overcame them.
(2:25 – 3:47)
I do have fear. And to handle it, I was just working hard every day to be able to get clients. And then once I got one, you know, so first one and second one, it took, like, maybe a couple months before the second one came along.
And then it just keep on coming. And what I did is no matter how small the business is, no matter what type of bookkeeping work that they need, I accepted them. Where are you at right now in terms of revenue? So I’m at close to eight grand a month.
Probably, it probably took about a year. And, again, even though if it’s just $150 revenue each month, you know, I took it. Because if you have 10 of those, that’s $1,500 a month.
I mean, it’s simple. It might take you, you know, an hour to do the books because they’re so small. To me, if, you know, if it’s, if it would put revenue into my P&L, I’ll take it no matter how simple it is.
You know, I might not be challenged because it’s super easy. But I take it. So, again, I have over 20 clients right now.
(3:48 – 5:00)
Some are big, some are small. But, you know, hey, it helps, you know. How has your life, how has life changed for you and your family? I was like, okay, I have this money now.
Me and my daughter are going to New York in June. And it’s good to have, you know, financial freedom. So, I’m able to do more stuff now than before.
But savings, you know. Terms of, like, the financial freedom and, like, the time flexibility, how has that, like, how are you enjoying that? Oh, I enjoyed it. I go to the gym.
So, I go to the gym three times a week. That, I could not do that before. I can cook.
If I want to do it every night, I can do it. I can, you know, spend more time with the family. We bought a dog.
We adopted a dog, I mean. Just, you know, like, you’re not in this wall. I’m not in this wall anymore.
(5:00 – 5:05)
Like, I can get out. I can do whatever I can. There’s just so much freedom.
(5:05 – 5:35)
You can align your schedule, you know, and no one is telling you what to do, how to do it and demanding you to do stuff, you know. And then you value yourself as yourself, like, okay, I have to appreciate me for doing this and stuff like that. I mean, there’s just so many.
I can do whatever, to be honest. I can work wherever, whenever. It’s so, you know, it just gives more happiness in your life.
(5:35 – 5:53)
What would you say to somebody who’s a little nervous about, like, I don’t know if I can learn this? You’ll just have to get over it. You’ll just have to think that you can do it. If you put your, if you put a goal in your heart to it, plus your hard work, you can do it.
(5:53 – 6:04)
So you don’t need to have a degree. You don’t need to, you know, be a master’s in bookkeeping to start. Anybody can do it.
(6:05 – 6:26)
What would you say to somebody who’s thinking of starting a bookkeeping business? If they’re thinking about it, what would you tell them? Do it now. Don’t think any longer, because the more you contemplate, then nothing’s gonna happen. I know it’s scary at first, but eventually you will get over it, just like I did.
(6:28 – 6:49)
And again, just, you know, I mean, the support is there. It’s 24-7. So if somebody’s, you know, good at, they know how to do bookkeeping, and they’re willing to follow the steps to market themselves, what would you say their chances of success are? So this business, you know, as long as you work hard, you commit, you deliver.
(6:50 – 7:17)
That’s the most important thing. You have to deliver, because that’s what you get paid for. And then, you know, stay positive.
If a client doesn’t accept your proposal, don’t get discouraged, because there are more out there that would respect you. I mean, you would respect the service, or that would value your service, not respect, but value the service, they, you know, they will come. They will keep coming.
(7:17 – 7:26)
I appreciate you taking the time to talk to me today, sharing your story a little bit. You know, I know it’s helpful for a lot of people. Yes, thank you so much.
(7:27 – 7:29)
Of course, of course. We’ll talk to you soon. Bye.
