Kelly worried she couldn’t find clients, now she has 23 and makes $15k per month

(0:00 – 0:06)
Hey, it’s Bill with booming bookkeeping business. And today I’m here with another one of my successful students. This is Kelly.

(0:06 – 0:15)
Hey Kelly. Hi, how’s it going? So let’s start at the beginning. Let’s talk a little bit about what life looked like before you started your bookkeeping business.

(0:15 – 0:45)
I was an admin for a company that does construction like cable construction, but I realized I wanted to do something different and work for myself and have the freedom because I love traveling. So I wanted to travel and just be able to have that kind of freedom. So I started on the side a little bit doing a little bit of bookkeeping work, um, as a side hustle and that grew slowly and I saw that it could become something, um, and that’s when I found your program on YouTube.

(0:46 – 0:52)
Um, and it was just great to learn about running a business. You know, I knew bookkeeping. I knew accounting running a business.

(0:52 – 1:03)
That’s so much. It’s a, it’s two different things. Um, so I needed to learn how to do with clients, how to do onboarding, uh, just the things of running a business that I just was so needed me.

(1:04 – 1:34)
So, and things just, you know, went, went just up from there. So now normally when people start their own business, they’ve got concerns, they’ve got fears, what concerns or fears did you have when you were starting your business? Um, maybe the fear of not knowing if I could bring on more clients, if that was going to be it, um, how to bring on clients, um, I think was my main concern. Um, and I think that’s, that’s one of the reasons why I decided to join your program because I didn’t know how to do that.

(1:34 – 1:43)
Um, like I said, I knew, I knew the bookkeeping. I knew how to do bookkeeping. I knew how to do the accounting stuff, but finding clients and getting processes set up, I just wasn’t familiar with that.

(1:43 – 2:06)
So once you kind of realized how to do it, did you feel like, Hey, this is like easier than I thought it was going to be? Did you, like, what were your, what were your feelings as far as that goes? Yeah, it wasn’t too complicated, which it was great. Um, yeah, I think I remember one of the first questions I asked you was I had done work for a client and I didn’t get paid for it and months had passed and I never got paid. So I was like, okay, so what did, I didn’t know what I did wrong.

(2:06 – 2:18)
I was like, what did I do wrong? I don’t want that to happen again. And in one of your YouTube videos, I made a comment and I said, how do you make sure that you get paid from a client? And you were like, easy, just build them in the beginning. I was like, well, that was easy.

(2:18 – 2:25)
I didn’t think about that. So the solutions you gave were very easy and not complicated. They make sense.

(2:25 – 2:38)
It was logical. So yeah, so it was good. What would you say to somebody without talking about my program? What would you say to somebody to alleviate their fears or concerns about whether or not they can learn it and whether or not they can get clients? I would say let go of those fears.

(2:38 – 2:47)
I think sometimes we’re our worst enemy and our worst critiques, things aren’t always going to be perfect because we’re not perfect beings. We’re going to make mistakes. I’ve made mistakes.

(2:47 – 2:50)
I’m still making them. I’m sure I’ll make more tomorrow. But that’s how you learn.

(2:51 – 3:09)
I feel like that’s how I’ve learned through my mistakes. So I would say don’t let the fear stop you because the pros, the benefits or the blessings are far more than things that you think may go wrong or may not hold you back. Yeah, so I would say that.

(3:09 – 3:39)
If I’m willing to do the work, I can get clients. Or if I’m willing to work, I can learn bookkeeping. Is that something you’re comfortable saying? Yeah, I would say, yeah, if you’re if you’re willing to put the work in it, that absolutely.

I mean, it’s going to be work, but it’s the advantages are going to be there. When clients log, when clients start calling in, leads are coming in. As long as someone’s willing to put in the work and their energy and mind into starting their business, they’re going to get clients.

(3:39 – 3:57)
It’s going to work for them. How about learning bookkeeping? Well, yes, that too. Yeah.

Well, they would have to learn and put the effort in. And as long as they get that first client, it’s it’s it’s up from there because you gain the experience, you learn from it. So the work is is worth it.

(3:57 – 4:15)
And once the work is put in, it’s going to give you results. You started the same place we all started, which was at zero in revenue. What does revenue look like now for you and how many clients and those types of things? So clients, I think I am about twenty to twenty three revenue right now.

(4:15 – 4:30)
I’m about fifteen sixteen K a month. So that’s been since the business started in May twenty twenty one. And your program, I believe I found it July twenty twenty one.

(4:30 – 4:41)
And I think I started getting clients from you that that winter or that that’s the fall, fall twenty twenty one. And it’s been great. It’s just it’s been growing slowly but surely.

(4:41 – 4:57)
And it’s been wonderful. So how long did it take you from when you started implementing the actual marketing stuff to getting like your first client? What did that look like? The first thing I did was ProAdvisor. I didn’t realize how useful it was until you mentioned it many times.

(4:57 – 5:05)
I was like, I didn’t know that was that useful. So I did that. Google, of course, I didn’t realize how effective that would be.

(5:06 – 5:18)
So once I got that a little bit fine tuned and refined, I would say clients started calling within two or three months. Yeah, it wasn’t it wasn’t too long. It wasn’t too long.

(5:19 – 5:24)
Approximately like how much like you’re doing. Did you say fifteen K? Yeah. Right now.

(5:25 – 5:35)
How many hours a week do you work on average? I would say four days a week. I try to take one day off a week. So four days a week, maybe from like seven to two, seven to three.

(5:35 – 5:43)
And I take a lot of breaks. So it’s not really a full time job. Maybe thirty, thirty five hours a week.

(5:43 – 5:59)
How is life different now from where what it looked like before you started? Well, I was able to move. So I moved from my where I was to Florida and didn’t have a problem finding a job because my job goes with me. So that was nice.

(6:01 – 6:07)
And I’m traveling more. I mean, right now I’m in Miami right now. So I’m traveling more, which is what I love to do.

(6:07 – 6:11)
And wherever I go, my computer goes with me. I’m working. I’m talking to clients.

(6:12 – 6:20)
I actually got a couple of leads through the ProAdvisor as I was traveling here that came through my email. So I’m always with my computer. Financially, things are better.

(6:20 – 6:45)
I’m making more money than I was my full time job. So it was definitely a great move. How does it make you feel about yourself looking at what you’ve accomplished? I’ve always been a confident person myself, but when it comes to business and dealing with particularly with other men, because I’m female, so dealing with other men in business, I feel like I’ve gained more confidence in it and a business owner in general, dealing with other business owners.

(6:45 – 6:53)
I have been doing it for 20, 30 years. When I first started, it was almost nerve wracking because they’ve been in this ball game almost their entire life. But now it’s been a couple of years.

(6:53 – 7:20)
So now I think my confidence is there when it comes to communicating, dealing with customers. I’ve been in business for a long time and even pricing. I think when I first started pricing, I think I was nervous to actually give a big number.

And now I’m like, this is what it is. So you’re going to pay or you’re not going to pay it. I’m not I’m not as scared, you know, per se, to quote someone a high number.

(7:21 – 7:32)
So I definitely think my confidence in business is a lot better. What would you say to somebody who’s considering starting their own bookkeeping business to encourage them? I would say do it. I would say don’t hesitate.

(7:33 – 7:37)
Don’t don’t don’t wait another second. Don’t waste time. Just do it.

(7:38 – 8:01)
And any fears that you may have, any concerns, just put those aside. Eventually, everything will always work out. And if you hire Bill as a mentor and get a really good mentorship program, it will work.

You know, you’re never going to feel like you’re alone. Like if you have questions, we’re going to ask. You have a huge Facebook group that we’re all in to support, which is fantastic.

(8:01 – 8:20)
It’s a fantastic group. I mean, I use it now. I love it.

We have your support email, which is great. So there’s no reason to feel like we’re not going to have support, that you’re going to be alone or when something happens. I don’t know what to do.

It’s fine because you have all these people. It’s not just you. It’s it’s everybody behind one person.

(8:21 – 8:29)
So that makes starting a bookkeeping business not as bad. It’s not too bad. Let’s say you’re talking to me and I’m willing to put in the work.

(8:29 – 8:46)
I’m willing to do what it takes without referring to my program. Can you speak a little bit about my chances of success? If you’re willing to do research and learn and work for it, it would work. You know, it’s going to require reading, learning about a business.

(8:47 – 9:16)
If somebody doesn’t know about bookkeeping, learning that aspect of it. I mean, but that’s just like anything, you know, nobody, nobody is born knowing everything, knowing things. They have to learn it and they have to put in the work to become who they want to become.

Yeah. If someone is willing to take the time, it’s going to take time, energy, maybe putting other things, you know, during the week aside to focus on the business, focus on learning, studying. But if that’s there, it’s almost like planting seeds.

(9:17 – 9:26)
You know, if you’re planting some seeds, it’s going to grow. It’s going to grow into something. And if you’re playing the right seeds, then it should grow into what you’re looking for, what you’re looking for to grow.

(9:26 – 9:54)
You know, any last final words that you would like to say about either my program or what you’d say to somebody who’s considering joining? I would say the program is worth the investment. So it is an investment. It’s not a cost.

It’s an investment not only to your business, but to your future, whatever that future may be or the goals may be. For me, it was a complete game changer. I mean, I don’t even know where I would be right now without that program.

(9:54 – 10:12)
I think I would have made so many mistakes, would have been frustrated, and it just would have taken me longer to get where I am now. So to anybody that wants to start a booking business, I would say you have to hire a mentor. And who better than Bill? So, I mean, the program itself is just fantastic.

(10:13 – 10:24)
And like I said, the fact that there’s a support group, support email, it’s just phenomenal. It’s a great backup when trying to run a business. As far as bookkeeping in general.

(10:25 – 10:37)
I mean, like I said, just do it, just start. The time goes by so fast. And when it comes to starting a business, you never want to be the kind of person where you look back in five years and say, I should have done that.

(10:38 – 10:47)
So I never want to be that person. So I wouldn’t waste time. So if you’re thinking of doing a book, starting a bookkeeping business or jumping into a business in general, do it.

(10:47 – 10:49)
It’s been great. Thank you. Thank you for your time.

(10:49 – 10:52)
It means a lot to me. Thank you for the kind words you said. And enjoy Miami.

(10:52 – 10:56)
Thank you. Will do. OK.

Talk to you soon, Kelly. Talk to you later. Bye.

(10:56 – 10:57)
OK. Bye bye. Bye bye.
