Bill (0:00 – 0:23): Hi, I’m Bill with Booming Bookkeeping Business, and I’m here with one of my successful students, Radhika. Now, Radhika, when she joined the program about a year ago, she had a pretty substantial revenue goal that she is now halfway to achieving, and she’s on pace to hit that goal by the end of this year. So, Radhika, thank you for taking the time.
Radhika (0:24 – 0:29): Thanks, Bill. Thank you for having me. So, tell us a little bit about yourself and your business.
Radhika (0:29 – 4:16): I actually have an accounting background. I’m a CPA. I started off my career in auditing and then did a bunch of different roles, working in the big corporations for about 13 years, and then I reached a point where I was like, you know what, I’m kind of done with corporate life, and I want to do my own thing. And I’ve always, while I hold a CPA, I’ve never been into tax. And so, for me, it was like, okay, I don’t want to do tax, so let me just start off with bookkeeping, right? And that’s what started the journey for me. So, I was like, okay, let me, I want to have my own bookkeeping business. And so, that was, I guess, what started off. And about a year ago, I got my business license, and I just officially kicked it off, and then I found your program. So, you wanted to start a bookkeeping business, so you kind of got started on your own, you got a business license, and then you found the program? I have a pretty good background, but I was just not sure how to go about the process. And I felt really overwhelmed. I had no clue how to get clients. I had no clue what to tell them. And to be honest, I’ve never done bookkeeping before. So, part of me is like, okay, I know I should know this. I’ve done other things, but the truth is, I’ve always looked at financials on a higher level, and kind of that deeper versus really doing the bookkeeping. So, all in all, I honestly felt lost. I just realized I just needed a lot of help and handholding to some degree to kind of kickstart the process for me. It’s interesting because people assume when they hear that someone’s a CPA that they do taxes, that they know how to do bookkeeping, that they know everything about accounting. And not everybody knows that there’s a completely different world of accounting for auditing, which is basically going in and being an independent third-party reviewer of a company’s financials. And so, yeah, you’re a CPA that didn’t necessarily know the bookkeeping side of things or getting started. I didn’t know QuickBooks Online or anything. Yeah, and I think that’s really helpful for people to understand that, oh, well, she’s a CPA. Of course, she was successful, but that’s just not the case. No, no. I think having a background helps, but as far as starting a bookkeeping business, I felt like I needed help, just sort of do it the right way with confidence. What was the reason for you to choose booming bookkeeping business as opposed to other options? The programs that I had invested in the past did not help me. It did not give me what I was looking for. I think one of the programs might have been a lot into marketing and I’m like, I’m not even there yet. I need to know how to give out engagement letters and how to accept payments and things like that. I’m not there yet. Why did I decide to pick you? Because obviously, I’m one of those people who came into your Facebook ad and when I saw your ad and I clicked on the video, you talked and you did a really good job, by the way. So, you talked about the things that exactly I was like, oh my gosh, this is what I need to know. And you were like, you know what? Just do QuickBooks Online, number one. And you can get QuickBooks for free. I mean, the people out there are selling it for a cost and I’m like, if you know the right tools and the right tricks of the trade, you can get QuickBooks certified for free. So, you talked about that. You talked about being paid up front. I was like, man, this is what I need to know. I don’t want to be paving after my invoices. To be honest, I didn’t go ahead and purchase right away. I’m like the queen of procrastination, right? So, I was like, okay, this kind of sounds pretty good, but I’ve already invested a bunch of money in other programs. Should I do this? Should I not? And of course, your emails kept coming in.
Radhika (4:17 – 6:40): You talked about the stuff that I wanted to know more about. I guess the third reason was for what you offer, the price was fairly usable. And so like, yes, I didn’t have any revenue coming in, but I was like, you know what? I think it makes sense to do it. That was the reasoning. You’ve had great results. What about the program has made it so effective for you? I think for me, the fact that like, if I felt like, you know, I don’t know, all around insecure, or if I had a question that I didn’t necessarily want to announce it to the group, I could actually email you and you were always there to get back in a very prompt manner. That to me, I think that was very helpful. And I think that is priceless, to be honest with you. A program wouldn’t be very good if we just threw 150 videos at you and said, good luck. So, it’s important that I’m there. And some people love the weekly calls. Some people have never been on a weekly call, but they get their questions answered through the Facebook group or the supporting email. So, I’m glad that that was helpful for you. You have a way to get really simplified solutions that really, you know, students like us are able to kind of follow through without much overwhelm. Yeah. And it’s easy to become overwhelmed. And it’s, I mean, and I can fall victim to it sometimes as well. And I certainly did when I was starting out, you know, looking at a problem or a question or an issue that I need to deal with and making it more complicated than what it needs to be. So, yeah, well, we definitely break it down for you. So, I’m glad, you know, I’m glad to hear you say that. So, now let’s talk a little bit about results because, I mean, you’ve had some great ones and it’s been a pleasure to see you, you know, move on up the ladder. I talked a little bit about this earlier. You set a substantial revenue goal and you’re about halfway there. And by the end of the year, you’re on track to get there. But tell me about, you know, results and speak a little bit about the success that you’ve had. This course, you know, it helped me to land my first client, but also after I landed a couple of clients, you know, my confidence, you know, went higher. And I also started to be really picky about it because for me, I feel like, I mean, yes, you know, I want to do this to obviously, like, you know, make money and hit my revenue goals.
Radhika (6:40 – 8:44): That’s part of business. But for me, it’s also about building a business the way I want to build, i.e. working with clients I really like or working only with clients who value me. I don’t necessarily have a niche yet, but like, so far, I mean, to me, that’s been some of the main things. And so, this course has given me the foundation to be able to do that. We do have people that come into the program that want to make, you know, multiple six figures, you know, they just want to make as much money as possible. And they do that. But we also have a bunch of people that just want a couple of clients, you know, on the side, maybe they’re retired, maybe they’re, you know, stay at home moms. We have some people that just want like you, just a couple of really high value clients, like they don’t need 20 clients. While I do show you a path for success, there are opportunities along that path for you to make decisions and customize this business the way you want it to, it should be, you should be doing the work you’re happy with and working when you want. And so I’m really glad that you pointed that out. Because it’s important for anybody watching this to keep in mind, you can have whatever kind of business you want. So tell me a little bit about how life has changed for you after being in the program. Now I can actually say I have a business. For the record, I have clients, I did not have that year ago. But I think, like I said, you know, I definitely have a long way to go. I’m in the process of refining my messaging, who I want to serve, whatever, whatever I want to do, and so on and so forth. But as far as like, how has my life changed? I am on the path. I think that’s big. I’m on the path to do what I want to do. And, you know, again, I have the foundation, I have, you know, I still come to your calls at, you know, whenever I can, and, you know, I’m always there to ask questions. So I think having those resources is really helpful. And yeah, I mean, I’m still in the process of building my business. But I’m in, I’m at a point where I know, I know what I’m doing, I have a lot to learn. But I also like know what I’m doing in terms of my business.
Bill (8:45 – 8:50): Some people don’t look at it that way. But that’s a major goal. That is a major milestone.
Bill (8:50 – 10:49): You know, you might not be there yet to your destination. But just feeling comfortable in your skin and comfortable with what you’re doing, like, okay, it’s clicking, I’m getting this, I know what I’m doing now. That feeling is huge. What would you say to someone who is thinking about starting a bookkeeping business, and maybe even wondering what kind of a program or if they should take a program? Make sure this is something you’re willing to put your heart and soul into. Because yes, anyone can learn bookkeeping, but you also need to put in the time and effort. And I think that’s important for you. Yes. You know, to have a business and for you to serve clients in your highest capacity. So, you know, be committed, right. And the other thing would be like, you know, if you can make make an investment in yourself and work with the right mentor, and obviously, you know, both program is a great, great way to do that. Well, I appreciate that. And I appreciate your time. And it’s just such a pleasure to see your success and working with you. And you’ve been successful because you’ve, you know, you followed the plan, you follow the plan, and you’ve reached out, you know, the Facebook group and the emails and the calls. Yeah, you’re not shy about reaching out. And that’s great. Would I spend more time at the beach if nobody ever reached out and asked me a question? Yes. But would people be getting good results? No. So I’m here. And I’m you’ve done that. And your success is a byproduct of that. So it’s exciting to see that. And I really appreciate you taking the time out today. Thank you so much, Bill.
