Bill: Hey everybody, this is Bill von Fumetti with Booming Bookkeeping Business and I’m here with one of our successful students, Yelena. Hello. Tell us a little bit about yourself and about your business.
(0:10 – 0:38)
Yelena: Well, a little bit about me, I’m Cuban. I’ve been in the country for about nine years now and I didn’t know any English at all when I first came in. Then I went to college and I did English and then I went for accounting. I got my accounting degree and I got to the point where I have two babies and I couldn’t find a job but they asked for so many years of experience and then I was just, you know, a brand new grad so I couldn’t find a job and I was thinking I owe so much money in a school that now I don’t know what to do with that so I had to do something for sure and that’s when I found you.
(0:38 – 0:50)
Bill: Okay, well very cool. So before you found me and the program, you had an accounting degree, you had two kids?
(0:50 – 0:52)
Yelena: Yes, I have two baby goats.
(0:52 – 1:01)
Bill: Okay, very cool. You weren’t having luck finding accounting positions so you decided to start your own bookkeeping business?
(1:01 – 1:02)
Yelena: Yes.
(1:02 – 1:17)
Bill: Yeah, I applied for so many places and no luck. And what made you decide to open your business as opposed to continuing to look for a job?
(1:17 – 1:31)
Yelena: Well, this is my dream. It has always been my dream to have my own business and I felt ready and I felt like I had to do something and it was now or never.
(1:31 – 1:38)
Bill: You had some student loan debt?
(1:38 – 1:53)
Yelena: Oh yeah and then I had a degree and I had so much debt and no jobs. I’m like I really, really have to do something too, baby. So tell me why you chose to join Booming Bookkeeping specifically over other options out there.
(1:53 – 2:12)
Yelena: I was searching how to start my own business and then I found you somehow on Facebook, I think.
(2:12 – 2:14)
Bill: Somehow. Facebook has a way of finding people.
(2:14 – 2:35)
Yelena: Yeah and then I saw the video training that you have at first and then you talk about the forms and pricing and everything that you have to do monthly. One thing is going to college and go for accounting and then one thing is to actually know what you have to do on a monthly basis.
(2:35 – 2:37)
Yelena: They don’t, you know, so I didn’t know what to do monthly, you know. And then you talked about that and then you talked about pricing and the engagement letters and all the forms that you offer and that’s the main reason why I chose you. Once you got into the program, what did you think of it and what made it so effective for you?
(2:37 – 3:26)
Yelena: You gave us absolutely everything we need to start. Everything. I mean from the legal forms that you need, from pricing, marketing strategies, that’s really important. You talk about everything. Like starting on how to start a business and then where to get your license and then you go from marketing and Google and everything that’s out there.
(3:26 – 3:42)
Bill: What have been your results since joining the program?
(3:42 – 3:58)
Yelena: I started out with no, an office and everything, you know, I got an office and got everything that I needed in my office and then I had no clients at all. None. Zero. Right now I have 13 and I have three appointments next week that I’m feeling pretty good about. That’ll put me up in 16 clients.
(3:58 – 4:10)
Bill: Wow. So zero clients.
(4:10 – 4:13)
Yelena: I’m very happy.
(4:13 – 4:34)
Bill: And it hasn’t even been a year. It was back in June. What has changed for you in your life in terms of what’s different as a result of bringing on 13 to 16 new clients?
(4:34 – 4:47)
Yelena: Well, I went from having zero income to being able to totally afford all my bills and travel and you know, I’m making my dream happen. It’s happening. And I’m happy, really, really happy. It feels so good.
(4:47 – 5:14)
Bill: You know, that’s one of the things that when I work with people, it’s one of the things that gives me the most fulfillment and the most pride is when I see somebody like you. Because you’ve done the two things that I require of people when they join the program. You’ve got to do the work and I know you’ve done it. You’re not successful if you don’t do the work. I know what works. It’s I’ve laid out the plan. And as long as you do the work, you’ll be successful. And then number two, you’ve reached out to me when you need help.
(5:14 – 5:26)
Yelena: You know, so yeah, the support group is amazing, too. I mean, the Facebook group, every time you have a question, you post it there. And then you have a lot of people helping you and it’s just been great.
(5:26 – 5:37)
Bill: Yeah. And I know you’ve done that. And I always tell people to do those two things. Don’t sign up for the program if you’re not willing to put in the work and reach out to me when you need help, because, hey, I’d love to have people join the program. You know, it’s an investment you make in me, but I make an investment in you, too.
(5:37 – 5:50)
Yelena: And it’s kind of my job to get you where you need to be. And you know, I didn’t feel alone at any point during this process. I always felt like I had someone if I needed help. So that was pretty good, too.
(5:50 – 6:03)
Bill: What does your schedule look like? Do you have flexibility as far as running a business?
(6:03 – 6:10)
Yelena: You know, when you have babies, they have doctor appointments that you have to take them to. And then my husband sometimes and I just go whenever I need to go. And it feels great, you know, just being able to go.
(6:10 – 6:18)
Bill: That’s cool.
(6:18 – 6:37)
Yelena: I personally don’t think I could make it in like a regular job. I do five. I don’t think I can do that just because I have my babies and I have so much going on that I I can’t. Sure. This is perfect for me.
(6:37 – 6:52)
Yelena: It’s nice to have that flexibility and then to go on vacation. And if I need to, I take my laptop not to work, but in case something comes up, you know, you can work at home. I mean, it’s just great.
(6:52 – 7:03)
Bill: Last question. What would you say to somebody who’s thinking about starting their own bookkeeping business?
(7:03 – 7:17)
Yelena: First thing I would say is not to not be afraid. I mean, I wanted to start my business. And if I was thinking that wasn’t ready and keep waiting, life just goes by like that, you know, just do it.
(7:17 – 7:26)
Bill: Well, you know, I really appreciate your time. You know, it means a lot to me that that you’re willing to take the time out to do this because I know you’re busy. You’ve got a lot of clients.
(7:26 – 7:51)
Bill: But it really, you know, kind of warms my heart when I talk to somebody who has who I’ve worked with. And I’ve been a small part of your success because you really are responsible. You know, I’m just the guy. I’m the guy in the background here for support for you. And here when you need me, but I love to see your success every time you post in the group and you’ve got a new client and things like that. I love to see that stuff. It makes me love what I do a lot.
(7:51 – 8:01)
Yelena: So you’re great at what you do. So thank you.
(8:01 – 8:17)
Bill: I appreciate that. So keep it up. Keep us posted on your success. And, and again, I appreciate your time.
(8:17 – 8:21)
Yelena: Thank you.
